انطلق البرنامج الحائز على جائزة إيمي "مملكة أوماهَا البرية لميوتشوال" في عام 1963، وعُرض في وقت الذروة بين عامي 1968 و1971، واستمر عرضه عبر شبكات المحطات المحلية حتى عام 1988، ليُعد أحد أطول المسلسلات التلفزيونية عمراً وأكثرها شعبية على الإطلاق. كان هذا المسلسل التعليمي رائدًا في أسلوب الأفلام الوثائقية الطبيعية ذات الطابع القصدي، حيث تتبع المضيف الوقور وعالم البيئة مارلين بيركينز (وانضم إليه لاحقاً جيم فاولر، وبيتر غروس، وستان بروك، وتوم ألين) وهو يرتحل إلى أبقاع الأرض وأقصاها لدراسة الحيوانات البرية في موائلها الطبيعية.
